In late August, the Museum of Furniture Studies hosted a matchmaking event between the young designers featured in the Ex-Works 2025 exhibition and representatives from the Swedish furniture industry.
This article examines how Finnish Modernism emerged from a blend of craft traditions, industrial production, and national identity. It also highlights the influence of the Gesamtkunstwerk ideal and how bent and laminated birch became a key material in post-war Finnish design.
Danish designer and artist Nanna Ditzel collaborated closely with her husband, Jørgen Ditzel, from 1946 to 1956. Together they created innovative furniture and jewelry, including the iconic Ring Chair, which became a hallmark of Danish modern design. During the 1970s and 1980s, Ditzel lived and worked in London, where she expanded her creative practice to include textile design, further cementing her reputation as a versatile and forward-thinking designer.
