Furniture designer Matilda Haglund studied a bachelor’s at LiU Malmstens in Lidingö from where she graduated in 2022. In collaboration with the Swedish furniture manufacturer Wigells in Malmbäck, Haglund examined how designers and manufacturers, through creating new furniture out of waste material from the production, can prolong material life cycles and thereby reduce the amount of waste in the furniture industry. The degree project called Ellor – to fix a broken circle resulted in three pieces of furniture based on three different concepts. The Rational table, the Experimental bench and the Unconventional stool. Ellor – “to fixa a broken circle” was shown at the Ex-Works 2022 exhibition at the Museum of Furniture Studies in 2022.
In 2025, she once again participated in Ex-Works, this time exhibiting his master's degree project from Konstfack.
The material and the community are usually keys in my design processes. I am curious about how and where materials can be used, and what, where and for whom we should design. Are there spaces, people and knowledge that we overlook? This curiosity relates to my interest in the qualities and challenges of rural contexts in relation to the field of design, mirrored in my master’s thesis. I work across different scales, and hold a bachelor’s degree in Furniture Design from Malmstens and a master’s in Spatial Design from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design.
