I started in graphic design and printing, then decided to study furniture upholstery at Malmstens to follow my love for making things by hand. While working as a graphic printer operator at a wallpaper factory, I worked with colours, forms and patterns every day, but I missed working directly with my hands and the materials. Over the years, I have developed my creative side through art schools in Värmland and Malmö. But it was when I began fixing old furniture in my home workshop that I found what I really loved – mixing art with hands-on work. Working with my hands while creating something functional became a growing passion. My journey to furniture upholstery comes from my family and my own work. I learned about the importance of taking care of things from my grandmother, who lived through hard times after the war. My father's workshop on a small island, with its smell of wood and tar, taught me to value materials with all my senses and that everything can be fixed. I learned more through furniture courses and working extra for the theatre workshops at Stadsteatern. I want to reuse and save materials when I can. Working from different kinds of angles has taught me about a wide range of different materials and how to see new ways to use things. This, plus my skills in illustration and pattern design, gives me a special way of looking at furniture upholstery. At Malmstens, I found exactly what I was looking for – traditional craft skills mixed with new design ideas. The shared genuine interest in the craft, and the opportunities for collaboration between different crafts, helped me bring together my art background with hands-on work. I’m always excited about what new adventures this journey through art and craftsmanship will bring next for me to explore.
