Kasper Salto first trained as a cabinet maker before attending the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen and Art Center College in Schweiz from where he graduated in 1994. Salto then worked for in the design studio of Rud Thygesen, until 1998 when he left to set up his own design studio.
In the late 1990s, Salto met Peter Staerk from the company Botium, for which he designed the Runner chair in 1997 which made them both famous, in Denmark as well as abroad. Two years later Salto designed the Blade chair for Frederica Stolefabrik, like the Runner made of laminated wood. With the stackable ICE for Fritz Hansen, Salto worked in aluminum with a seat and back of plastic.
Salto has collaborated with architect Thomas Sigsgaard since 2003, working mainly with furniture and lighting with manufacturers such as Cassina, Lightyears, and Varier. In 2011 they won a competition to create new furniture for the UN Trusteeship Council. Kasper Salto was awarded the ID Prize in 1999, the Copenhagen Cabinetmaker Guilds Snedkeprisen in 2002, the Finn Juhl Prize in 2010, and the Thorvald Bindesbøll Medal in 2012.
