Karin Bolin has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Design (2023, 2025) from HDK-Valand – Academy of Art and Design at the University of Gothenburg. Karin’s master’s project, entitled Where the Tree Was, explored the relationship between forest, material and form. The focus of the project was spruce infected by the tree fungus, Heterobasidion annosum. In 2023, she was honoured to receive the Carl Larsson Scholarship in recognition of her design studies and artistic development. Karin Bolin’s practice revolves around materiality, consciousness and context-driven design processes. She is interested in exploring how materials carry stories, both ecological and cultural. She often works with wood, collected and traced to its origin, allowing its natural qualities to inform the outcome. Her work is driven by curiosity about alternative material flows and critical perspectives on production.
