José Luis Martínez (b. 1992) is a Mexican architect and designer currently completing an MFA in Design at HDK-Valand, Gothenburg. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Architecture (2016) and has over seven years of experience in interior and spatial design. He has worked as a junior project manager and later as a senior project director at design studios in Guadalajara and Mexico City. His practice seeks to bridge architecture, spatial and furniture design, often incorporating artistic and social methodologies to encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration. Influenced by both academic and professional contexts, Martínez explores how materials and forms interact with social environments. He views design as a platform for research and action – where material and form are not merely aesthetic tools, but also catalysts for engaging with space, people and culture. His work is rooted in process and collaboration, aiming to create thoughtful, context-sensitive projects that resonate with the communities and spaces they inhabit.
