Joelle Aune studied Product Design at Beckmans, where her practice explores the relationship between material, symbolism, and form through a deeply intuitive and sculptural approach. Her work is guided by a sensitivity to material presence, allowing inherent qualities to shape both process and outcome.
A significant project in her studies, developed in collaboration with Källemo, helped define her approach to design as an act of care and intentionality. This experience reinforced her interest in creating objects that balance functionality with a strong sculptural character—objects that hold lasting value and remain devoted to human use. Her work engages in the field of collectible design, where utility, culture, and emotional resonance intersect.
Joelle’s practice draws inspiration from esoteric traditions, alchemy, and ancient symbolism, particularly from Egyptian cosmology. She approaches objects as carriers of meaning beyond their function, exploring how transformation, ritual, and material can embody deeper narratives. Central to her work is the idea of material as origin—where the concept emerges through direct engagement rather than being imposed.
Material exploration is fundamental to her process. She works intuitively with materials such as clay, wood, stoneware, and natural fibers, often favoring those with a strong sense of origin and authenticity. Clay, in particular, has become central to her practice, valued for its transformative cycle between softness and permanence, reflecting themes of change and becoming.
Her process unfolds through a close dialogue between hand, material, and form. Rather than beginning with fixed outcomes, she allows ideas to emerge through making, guided by proportion, silhouette, and reduction. Craftsmanship plays a vital role, with detailing used as a means of embedding symbolic and poetic layers within the object.
Joelle’s work is driven by a desire to create objects that endure—not only physically, but in their ability to resonate emotionally and culturally—offering a quiet, lasting presence shaped by material integrity, symbolism, and care.
