Gustaf Douhan is interested in the boundaries between architecture, interior, and furniture, emphasising the duality and in-betweenness of these disciplines. He was educated at Malmstens Linköping University and Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design, and believes that both details and quality are important, as well as the overall gestalt – often in dialogue with history, yet firmly anchored in the present.
In his bachelor´s degree project named Gestalt–Léonie–Göran Gustaf Douhan analyzed two existing rooms and their atmosphere from a phenomenological perspective with the aim to design new furniture for the spaces. The two wooden benches designed by Douhan relates to the rooms in character, expression and function; one dark brown for St. Görans High School, and one in bright colors for the church of Vårby Gård.
The project was a part of the Ex-Works 2022 exhibition at the Museum of Furniture Studies in 2022.
In 2025, he once again participated in Ex-Works, this time exhibiting his master's degree project from Konstfack.
